Why I Chose This Path
Since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated by iron—whether it was toy swords or car keys, I was drawn to anything metal.
My passion for craftsmanship led me to technical high school, and after graduation, I worked in a steel manufacturing company.
While working with metals, I became captivated by Japanese swords. When I learned there was a living swordsmith in Bizen Osafune, I couldn’t wait—I had to visit immediately.
I was fortunate to witness and experience the process firsthand: the ringing sound of hammering red-hot steel, the sparks flying, and the sword gradually taking shape. My excitement was overwhelming.
In that moment, I knew—this is the world I want to be part of. That feeling remains vivid today.
Unable to contain my enthusiasm, I convinced my wife and decided to apprentice under the master swordsmith.
Now, while crafting knives, I continue my training as a swordsmith, carrying on this ancient tradition.
